The Most Popular Phone in the World

This isn’t the most interesting man in the world’s phone, although since his beer is watery and dull, it might be.

It’s the Nokia  1100, and it has sold 250 million units worldwide.

The Most Popular Phone in the World

This is a fascinating read because it reveals the differences in worldwide markets, the challenges and the plans Nokia has to continue its dominance.

I’m particularly interested in the C3-00, which rivals its Android and iPhone cousins in functionality for a much lower entry fee. This phone could be the iPhone for everyone.

I’ve been fascinated by mobile and its possibilities since 2008 when I attended Jason Grigsby’s (@grigs) session at WebVisions here in Portland.

I remember in the late 90s when NTT DoCoMo was pushing Japanese mobile to the bounds of what was possible. At the time, it seemed like a fantasy world to do so much with mobile, since I was rocking a Nokia 6000-something banana.

By 2008, it seemed real because I had an iPhone, which had finally unlocked the potential of mobile.
