Everything Needs a Game Layer

Here’s another bright mind, Seth Priebatsch (@sethpriebatsch) of SCVNGR, talking about gamification. Seth wants to build a game layer on top of the world, and I agree.

I’m embedding his TEDxBoston talk from last year here, but definitely check out his SXSWi keynote from a couple weeks ago, which I’m not allowed to embed. Both Rich (@rmanalan) and Noel (@noelportugal) recommended it highly.

I agreed with his premise going in, but even so, what he has to say is very informative, especially if you’re a naysayer on gamification.

  1. I agree gaming has potential – in the enterprise apps space too, maybe beginning with CRM. The question is what would it look like – could we see API calls to barcode hero eventually? Longer term users may not even be aware they’re using apps as such. I think the way forward here is through mobile devices.

  2. All over the enterprise really. I’ve been thinking in this space for a few years, and the nuance is in presentation. Present a game, and people roll their eyes. It’s not an easy problem to solve. Mobile solves some problems, but not as many enterprise apps ones as you’d think, at least not the back office ones.
