This page demonstrates how to install an OpenSearch plugin for Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7, using the Autodiscovery feature. The sample search engine is for Oracle MetaLink, which is available to Oracle customers only. Note that Firefox 1.5 and IE6 do not support OpenSearch.

In FF2, here is how the search bar looks when you browse a website with search plugin auto-discovery like this one:

Click the arrow and pull down the list. Select "Add Search Oracle MetaLink" to add the search plugin.

In IE7, here is how the search bar looks when you browse a website with search plugin auto-discovery like this one:

Click the arrow and pull down the list. Select "Add Search Providers" and pick "Search Oracle MetaLink" to add the search plugin.

For some reason, IE7 only shows the first 3 auto-discovered plugins, so you IE7 users can install the plugins that are not on the list by using the links that follow.
Or, if you just don't feel like installing with Autodiscovery, click the links to install:

A bonus for Firefox (and Thunderbird) users who install the MetaLink search engine plugin:

Instructions for Thunderbird are here.

For Firefox 1.5 users:

If you are a Firefox 1.5 user and want to install any of the OpenSearch plugins listed above, please drop me a note at oracleappslab_ww@oracle.com, and I will try to accomodate you. Thanks.
