Access 1Password on Android with Dropbox

Several of us use Agile Web Solutions 1Password to manage our multitude of credentials. However, they don’t have an Android solution, and I’ve hated living without it since my move to Android.

Aside from the password store on Mac, 1Password offers a bunch of great options to access credentials on other devices, including an excellent iPhone app that syncs, browser extensions for Safari, Chrome and Firefox, and an awesome 1Password Anywhere solution that, when coupled with another of our favorites, Dropbox, allows access to your store from any machine.

None of these work with Android.

Agile doesn’t have the resources to build an Android app, although I suspect as the demand increases, they’ll devote time to this, e.g. the initial reply was “no plans” in 2008 and now is time permitting.

There is, however, a solution for Android, again using Dropbox.

Export your store as an encrypted HTML page, save it to Dropbox and open with the Dropbox HTML viewer within the Dropbox Android app.

1Password on Android – THE SOLUTION « This Too Shall Pass

Rich (@rmanalan) deserves credit for coming up with this too.

Incidentally, 1Password Anywhere doesn’t work with Chrome if you’re trying to access it locally, e.g. with a Dropbox client because Chrome won’t allow local files to execute Ajax. The solution for Chrome is to open the 1Password Anywhere file from Dropbox’s web app.

1Password and Dropbox, two great tastes . . .
