Obviously, this is a US-slanted argument, but it begs related questions like how much international success does Verizon account for by driving US adoption?
Verizon Lays Claim To Android’s Success
Based on what I’ve seen and documented here, Verizon is spot on, albeit much to the annoyance of the Android hacking community.
Other domestic carriers have done a painfully meh job of marketing their Android phones.
Thinking hard, I do remember the Sprint EVO commercials, but they fall pretty short of compelling or sticky memorable. Same for T-Mobile, who has recently turned to bashing AT&T, not competitive phones.
Thoughts?
This would make Verizon the new Al Gore. Whatever about the US, they don’t call the shots internationally. Whole range of factors, I think app development and Google outreach programmes are having an impact: http://www.visionmobile.com/blog/2010/11/infographic-the-mobile-developer-journey/
That’s why it would be interesting to see how Android could have progressed without Verizon, both in the US and abroad. They have a point about in the US, but abroad, I’m doubtful their claim would hold water.
