Sometimes things collide interestingly. I had just finished watching the latest installment of Kirby Ferguson’s awesome Everything is a Remix series when I ran into Ultan’s (@ultan) post about the iOS 5 Notification Center.
The short version is that iOS 5 finally cleans up notifications, which have sucked from the get-go, by implementing a system that borrows heavily from Android’s very popular notifications and improves on them. I’ve been running iOS 5 beta on my iPad for several days, and the Notification Center is very well done. If you’re wondering, it’s an apples-to-apples comparison because I also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Honeycomb 3.1.
Anyway, watch Everything is a Remix, Part 3, and you’ll recognize what I mean. Unsurprisingly, for those who know the history of the personal computer (not the since branded Windows PC), Apple plays a part in the video.

I highly recommend checking out the other two parts in the Everything is a Remix series as well, which cover movies and film.
Thanks for shout out. Can’t wait to check out the notification center myself. Wondering does iOS5 allow anything new with personalization of notifications (how, when, where you get them) too…
You have a few more options in the Settings – Notifications area, but frequency isn’t one. You can set where to put them onscreen (center vs. notification pop up). Apps might implement frequency, but who knows. It’s disjointed a bit, like Anrdoid w the system and apps each having settings.
Might change during beta.
