Oracle Social Network Technical Tour

Yesterday, I told you about the Oracle Social Network Developer Challenge we’ll be hosting at OpenWorld (@oracleopenworld) next week. If you’re attending OpenWorld or JavaOne (@javaoneconf) and want to get hands-on experience with Oracle Social Network and show off your coding chops, this is the event for you.

Go ahead and register. I’ll wait.

But wait, there’s more.

If you’re not sure you’ll have the time for the Challenge, don’t want to embarrass anyone with your awesome skills, have a hectic schedule and can’t commit, or just want to learn more about Oracle Social Network and how to extend it, then the Oracle Social Network Technical Tour is for you.

The Tour will take you through an overview of Oracle Social Network, its RESTful Public API and a brief, light coding exercise. The content is very similar to what we showed at ODTUG Kscope 12 back in July, minus the Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots.

It’s not a heavy investment of time, only about 15-20 minutes of content, followed by Q&A and . . . .

We’ll have something new and fun to show. We’ve retired the robots, for now, and Noel (@noelportugal) has cooked up something new, involving those lovable, flying, screaming monkeys we bring to conferences and this target.

Noel will also have some other gadgets to show off, so let your mind wander.

The Tour runs about 30 minutes total, and we’ll be giving it in the OTN Lounge, Howard Street Tent between Moscone North and South, during the Developer Challenge Office Hours, Monday and Tuesday 4 PM to 8 PM. Note that to get into the OTN Lounge, you’ll need to show your OpenWorld or JavaOne badge.

Incidentally, have you seen all the happenings planned for the OTN Lounge?

Can’t make those times either, but you still want to learn about Oracle Social Network and get a little dirty with some code? Check out the Oracle Social Network Hands-On Lab, Monday 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM in the Marriott Marquis, Salon 1/2. We won’t be there, but that may be a good thing.

Hope to see you in San Francisco.
