An emailer to an internal iPhone mailing list yesterday mentioned that he’d cut the SIM card from his old iPhone to put into his new, but not yet activated, iPhone 4.
The iPad 3G and iPhone 4 both use MicroSIMs, another Apple-specific hardware invention.
I thought this was a joke, but it’s a legit technique, complete with how-to video.
Make: Online : Trim your SIM FTW
Seems like making a housing to reinsert the newly trimmed SIM back into its original device would be possible using a credit card.
I love this stuff.
Ugh no discussions about SIM cards please. I had a co-worker tell me her nokia had been acting funny a couple days ago with an error message about the SIM. I tore it apart to find mold growing on the SIM card. At that point was when she says “Oh that must have been from when my daughter dropped it in the toilet a couple weeks ago”
That should be an easy fix though. Plus, you can let her know about the immersion in uncooked rice technique for the next time (and there will be one) her phone goes into, erm, liquid.
They should converge with waterproof timepieces, then the diving crowd could use them too.
That is the most common problem with phones, after all.
Cross-over commenting, I like it. Agreed wholeheartedly that phones should be waterproofed. Based on early reports, the new iPhone is 100% less drop-resistant than its predecessors. I'm shocked that twice as much glass would break so easily 🙂
