I know, sounds like a misnomer.
This is, of course, what everyone in advertising aims to create. I’m not a fan of advertising, and who really is anymore, excepting those who get paid to do it.
Still, given the inundation of ads in life, the clever ones stand out, and in the past day, I’ve now seen two instances. So, I figured I share them, which I suppose might be a bit like “sharing” a cold.
Anyway, first was an advertisement on an coffee cozy. Not terribly unique, but this wasn’t for the coffee shop, it was for gum that whitens your teeth along with a coupon.
As Jeremy Clarkson would say, absolutely brilliant.
What a great targeted ad. Hey there coffee drinker, your breath may stink after you finish that cup, and it will definitely stain your teeth. Just a friendly reminder, here to help.
Next up was this post from Paul (@ppedrazzi), who is now paid to care about advertising.
Apparently, Hulu now offers viewers a choice in ads, which slightly lessens the annoyance of having to watch an ad.
If I have to have ads in my life, I appreciate the interesting or clever ones.
What do you think?
The coffee ad is interesting, because the coffee shop might want to reject the ad because it casts coffee in a negative light. (Of course, if the coffee shop sold the gum, it would be a different matter entirely.)
I just commented at Paul’s blog regarding Hulu’s choice.
I don’t think the coffee shop sells the gum. Also, I wouldn’t worry about the negative light, since one goes for a cozy *after* purchasing the coffee. And let’s be honest, this isn’t anything new about coffee 🙂
I hope the shop got a piece of the action or was paid to carry the cozies.
Or perhaps the coffee shop just got free cozies.
That works too, either way local coffee wins, right?
