What Happens When You Like Something

By now, you know we have a Facebook page. Like it immediately. I’ll wait.

Ever wonder what happens when you like something on Facebook? Facebook Insights provides analytics for a fan page, a lot like any traditional web analytics package does, e.g. Google Analytics.

But since this is Facebook, I can get data like these:

That’s right, we’re not terribly popular with the ladies, although oddly our female demographics do seem to include women and their daughters.

Anyway, just a PSA to let you know some of the very interesting data you are willingly giving fan pages on Facebook when you like them.

If you’re freaked out, feel free to unlike us now. You can follow our content here, i.e. on theappslab.com or @theappslab on Twitter, and retreat back into the relatively comfortable anonymity provided by standard web analytics where I can only tell what browser and OS you use and maybe the country of your ISP.

Incidentally, we also have new icons up in the top right column, hand-drawn by yours truly and scanned. If you want to reuse, let me know. I have an email one too, but I replaced it with Facebook to discourage the spammers.

  1. I was thinking more of the whole “grunge design” thing. Obviously your site design isn’t grunge, but those images have the grunge thing going on.

  2. Ah. I like the hand-drawn icon thing Rich did, but the colors weren’t really in keeping with our theme. Plus, it was fun little project.
