You draw a curve, and Google Correlate matches search terms to it from search data collected from January 2003 to the present.
Playing with it for a few minutes is bound to turn up something that makes you cock an eyebrow, like this random curve that correlates to both “nyc ny” and “ny ny” oddly.
Now I want to know why. Anyway, enjoy.
