Leaving the Nest

It has been nearly four years since we formed the lab and almost as long since we started talking about it externally.  In my 9 years at PeopleSoft/Oracle, I have had the pleasure of doing some great jobs and meeting some amazing people, but nothing compares to the small team I had the honor to stand with here at the lab.  Rich, Jake and Anthony are giants, and I owe each of them a debt of gratitude for teaching me every day.

The lab is damn good.  Everyone on the team believes they have the best job at Oracle – you can imagine how hard that situation is to leave.  For me, the bigger yes came in the form of an opportunity at Deutsch LA.  Deutsch is a full service marketing agency with its roots in advertising.  They work with clients such as Snapple, DirectTV, Dr. Pepper, Volkswagen, Sony Playstation and more.

If you don’t know me, it may seem like a stretch jumping into consumer, but then again I used to be a CPA too, so go figure.  In truth, I am more likely to be found re-designing a product’s packaging, wondering how to make a door close smoother, or more recently, hacking together my own trike out of old cruiser parts than anything else.  In fact, the work we have done driving new ideas into an organization and tinkering with the newest trends in tech is exactly what Deutsch is looking for.  As if that wasn’t enough, the people I met so far are not only smart and creative, but incredibly nice.  As it should be.

Change is always tough, especially when it involves moving to a new city with your family.  The good news is that we are up for a new adventure and where there would be anxiousness there is excitement.  I was born and raised in Northern California and never found reason to stray.  It seems I am leaving that nest as well.  It is time to use these wings.
