A few months ago, I blogged about the events widget that appears directly under the Archives section in the left-hand column of this blog.
The list of events posted to the Upcoming appslab group is getting a little short, so I went through and posted a bunch more, including Web 2.0 Expo in April, which we [...]

Recently, I blogged about FriendFeed, a new app that aggregates all your friend’s 2.0 activity into a single river of goodness, a la the Connect Activity Log or the Facebook News Feed.
In typical new web fashion, FriendFeed is in invite only beta now, and earlier in the week, I got my beta invite. The concept [...]

We probably have a pretty high overlap percentage with Eddie so many of you have already seen this. Still, I want to point out a sweet Greasemonkey script he published yesterday.
The script expands your keyword search on MetaLink to a host of other engines: Oracle documentation, blogs, public forums and mailing lists, AskTom, search.oracle.com and [...]

Mashable has a nice nexus post for me. They note (as I did) that: 1) Google Reader can now count up to 1000 and 2) That Reader now has search, which I also blogged about recently.
Comparing the searches (i.e. the built-in one and the hacked together one), the integrated one is very nice. It allows [...]

So, about a month ago when I released the Oracle Blogs search engine plugins, Carl asked a very valid question. Why can’t I search all the blogs listed at blogs.oracle.com, regardless of whether they are hosted by Oracle or not?
I thought about this, contemplating creating a Custom Google Search Engine and a plugin against that. [...]

I have returned from the land of home improvement projects to bring you this tasty Monday nugget.
We at AppsLab are all big fans of Google Reader. You can find our OPML files on the About page, if you’re interested. They’re nothing like Scoble’s 600+ feeds, but each of us has a pretty hefty list [...]

Jumping on the bandwagon, I’ve created my very own QuickConnect Card for OOW this year. Eddie and Carl have cards as well.
I think this is the first time we’ve had something like this for OOW, and it seems like a good way to “schedule” ad hoc meetings with people that will be at Moscone.
This [...]

Yesterday, I blogged about 11g updates to documentation tools that Eddie and I have written. I just noticed that Justin has a post about the 11g documentation as well. Apparently, each page now features comments at the bottom. I had to check this out for myself, and sure enough, here it is.
Don’t believe it? Go [...]

Eddie Awad has a post today that some of you will find useful. His Oracle Bookmarklets and search plugins now support the brand new 11g R1 documentation. The Oracle Documentation search plugin I posted also includes 11g R1 now, too.
For those uninitiated, bookmarklets allow you to do some pretty sweet productivity tweaks using Javascript in [...]

Now that we’ve been around for a few months and have some posts in the archive, I decided it was time to roll out a search plugin for our blog. If you frequent this space, you’ll know about search engine plugins. If you don’t, here’s a quick primer.
So, I’m happy to announce that the AppsLab [...]

Yesterday, OTN released the Oracle DBA Toolbar (screenshot) for Firefox and IE. A great little tool for any Oracle DBA. Kudos to Justin and his OTN crew for delivering innovative, useful tools for our customers.
Readers of this space may be sick of hearing about OpenSearch plugins, but like it or not, people find them useful. [...]

Lost over the weekend was a del.icio.us link from Rich to PeopleSoft Search. ChiliJoe has put together a sweet combination of a Google Custom Search Engine and OpenSearch plugins to make it easier to find PeopleSoft technical content. Eddie Awad has a custom search engine for his OraNA news aggregregator as well.
A Google Custom [...]

The reaction to the MetaLink plugin has been overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to all who have linked, commented or downloaded. It seems we’ve tapped a reservoir of productivity tools that have existed for a while, but haven’t been shared. I’m interested to know if you have browser plugins or add-ons that make you [...]

A friend of mine saw the MetaLink plugin post I did and asked about currency conversion with a plugin. Many people may already know that Google does conversions if you pass it a certain sequence of keywords. Both IE7 and FF2 ship with a Google OpenSearch plugin, and the FF one implements search [...]

Do you use the search box in your browser? If you’re not familiar with it, here’s what it looks like in Firefox 2:
And in Internet Explorer 7:
If you don’t use these boxes, you should. They save loads of time. Surprisingly, both use a standard called OpenSearch that allows for quick and [...]
