“For Your iPhone Only”

iphone.jpgFor those Oracle people who come here to read iPhone fodder, I’ve started an internal wiki to collect all the tips and tricks that have surfaced from Oracletes with iPhones. Drop me a note to get the 411.

Rich is still jealous. However, he may be in luck. Paul may be taking AppsLab on the road to the Office 2.0 Conference, September 5-7 at the St. Regis in San Francisco. More details on that to follow.

Here’s the kicker. Every registrant gets an iPhone. No joke.

Update: Rich may not be able to go. <Giggle/>

Update 7/14/2008: There’s a new home for all things Oracle iPhone. Read about it here.

Update 8/7/2008: The content we used to host on the wiki is now rolled into official content provided by IT and security. So, no more wiki. If you want to share information with other iPhone users, there’s a group on Connect and a mailing list.

  2. I know you said it’s for internal use only, but I’d be really interested in any Oracle Calendar iPhone tricks you have. We’re using it where I work (as a support tech) and we’re seeing more and more iPhones popping up around campus.

  4. Drew,
I guess it depends on the version you’re running. From what I’ve seen, you’ll need to export to ical or vcal, then import to iCal to sync to iPhone. It’s a bit clunky, but that’s 50% Apple’s fault for only supporting iCal. I think there’s some kung fu you could do on the server side to export a calendar automatically, but you still have the manual iCal step.
Keep in mind I still run Palm for my calendar b/c it has 10 years of data, and I haven’t found a good way to move it all to a modern calendar.
I’ll bet you could find some sweet hacks out there to make it easier.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Wait until Rich gets one, then I suspect you’ll find a lot more iPhone hacks here.
    Thanks,
    Jake

  6. Jake.
Did Rich go to the conference? I really want the hack to get Oracle Calendar entries on the iPhone. Our wonderful Collabsuite Connector will not allow us to sync to Collabsuite. To bad the iPhone doesnt support SyncML (or does it? ). My Nokia was getting along with Oracle’s SyncML for calendar.

  8. Alas, Rich decided to do other things. We should start a “Buy Rich an iPhone” pool to get him to hack together some tools.

I have no idea about SyncML. Drop me an email, and I’ll point you to the internal wiki I started.

  10. Totally. You are not alone. We use it internally, so we’re pushing to get more features too.

  22. I just downloaded iTunes 7.5 (which was released today) and with that, the Outlook Calendar sync work like a charm. Sync capability with Outlook Connector plug in was one feature I was waiting for from the time I bought my iPhone. Now with the new iTunes update, that no longer is an issue.

  24. Praveen: This is good news. Send me an email, and I’ll send you the wiki site, so you can document the process. There are a lot of people out there who want calendar integration.
